The oldest restaurant on the Naschmarkt<\/h2>\n

Quality and tradition<\/strong> have always been part of our restaurant, Zur Eisernen Zeit. Classic Viennese cuisine<\/strong> and a freshly-tapped beer<\/strong> or a good glass of wine<\/strong> remain our trademark today.<\/h3>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]As early as the 18th century<\/strong>, there was a farmers’ market on the banks of the Vienna River, where mainly dairy products were traded. The name Naschmarkt<\/strong> probably derives from this original use of the area as a milk market<\/strong>. The barrel made of ash wood in which milk was transported was traditionally called \u201cash\u201d<\/strong>. In 1916<\/strong> the Naschmarkt was moved from Karlsplatz to its current location. In order to provide food for the construction workers who built the \u201cmarket stalls\u201d, the first and oldest restaurant on the Naschmarkt opened inside the place where gold was previously exchanged for iron<\/strong> to finance the imperial treasury: Zur Eisernen Zeit<\/strong>. The \u201cEiserne<\/strong>\u201d, as it is affectionately called by guests and employees alike, soon became known throughout the city for its traditional Viennese goulash<\/strong> which has remained our staple to this day. The mix of friendly service, a rustic ambience and excellent dishes and drinks attracts people from all walks of life \u2013 whether you\u2019re a celebrity, an artist, a student or simply just passing through, you\u2019ll feel at home in the \u201cEiserne\u201d<\/strong>.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space]
